AQ Smart Speaker with Apple AirPlay®

The AQ Smart Speaker with Apple AirPlay® is a totally wireless and totally portable audio system - it can play all your audio and media anywhere around the house and garden direct from your Smartphone using your existing WiFi network.

You can use it to listen to films & ‘YouTube’ clips, over 20,000 radio stations via an Internet Radio App and also your entire media library on your Smartphone, iPod, Laptop or PC.  Any music that can find its way to your Smartphone or media player can be transmitted to the Smart Speaker.

With its leading edge and patented, high powered amplifier, the Smart Speaker is able to deliver superb high quality sound from a 24W unit for up to 20 Hours before recharge when using Holiday Mode (Connected via line in) and over 10 Hours in AirPlay® Mode.

When using two Smart Speakers in the same room you can set them up to deliver Left and Right stereo sound creating the perfect audio experience. You can also have as many Speakers as you want all round the house and garden all playing the same song for that multi room effect. Using the Apple® REMOTE ‘App’ you can adjust the volume and also which Smart Speakers play the songs direct from your device. Your friends can also select songs from their playlists making the party lists easier to manage.

General

 

Can I use more than one Smart Speaker at the same time?

You can currently only connect to one speaker at a time from an iPod, iPad or iPhone.

iTunes will allow you to connect to multiple speakers at the same time, but needs to be run on a suitable computer The computer needs to be Wi-Fi capable and connected to your wireless network. You can use the Remote App from Apple to control iTunes using an iPod Touch, iPad or iPhone.

You could also use more than one iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad on the same network, each controlling a different speaker.

 

Can I leave the Smart Speaker outside/in the bathroom?

It is not recommended to leave the Smart Speaker in conditions where it may be exposed to high humidity for any length of time.  Water should not be allowed to get inside the speaker, as this can easily damage the precision components.

 

What is the maximum number of speakers I can use at the same time?

The number of Airplay speakers you can use in one place is limited by the available bandwidth of the Wi-Fi network you are connected to.   This will be reduced if there are other networks also operating in the same location.

Can I connect the speaker to my iPod/iPad/iPhone...

To use the Airplay function, you will need to be running iOS 4.2 or later on your Apple device.

You can also connect any device with a headphone socket to the Aux In connector.

 

Can I use Airplay from my computer?

You can use Airplay from any computer (Mac or Windows) which is running iTunes 10.1 or later, provided the computer has a Wi-Fi connection capable of “g” standard or better.

 

Do I have to connect the AQ Smart Speaker to my network every time I use it?

Once you have set the smart speaker to use your network, the speaker will remember the settings. It can only remember one network at a time, so if you change it to a different network, you will need to enter the network information again when you change it back.

 

Can I connect the AQ Smart Speaker to more than one network?

The AQ Smart Speaker can only connect to one network at a time; however you can change the network settings as often as you want. Using the AQ Connect App makes it easy to change the settings.

 

What is the range of the AQ Smart Speaker?

The operating range of the AQ Smart Speaker is 40 Metres; this will be reduced when operating with obstructions, for example through walls.

The actual distance you get will also depend on the range of your Wi-Fi router. The distance between the streaming device and the AQ Smart Speaker can be greater than 40m , provided both are in range of the Wi-Fi Router.

To get the best Wi-Fi coverage, make sure that your Wi-Fi Router is not obstructed by furniture and other objects, if possible place it on a high shelf where the signal is likely to be less obstructed.

 

How will I know if there is a firmware update available?

If you have registered your AQ Smart Speaker, we will send you an e-mail when a new update is made available.

You can also check the website for new updates. Instructions for installing updates are in the user manual, and also available for download alongside the update.

 

Can I use airplay when away from the network?

Unfortunately, Airplay requires a network with a router to function correctly.

 

Why does my Wi-Fi LED not switch on?

The Wi-Fi LED switches off when the speaker is in Aux In mode. Briefly press the power button whilst the speaker is switched on to switch back to Wi-Fi mode.

 

I plugged my MP3 player into the Aux In socket, but I can’t hear it.

Make sure that you are in Aux In mode – The Wi-Fi LED will be off. If the Wi-Fi LED is on, briefly press the Power/Mode button whilst the speaker is switched on to switch to Aux In mode. Don’t forget to adjust the volume on both your MP3 player and the Smart Speaker itself.

 

The volume of the speaker is really quiet, why won’t it turn up any further?

Check your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad to ensure that Sound Check is not switched on. This limits the volume so that you do not damage your ears when listening via headphones. Check the volume control on the iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad.

Can I use other Apps whilst listening to music?

Most current Apps support multitasking, so as long as the app you want to use does not need to use the sound output, your music will continue playing. If you try to use an App which requires the sound output, or does not support multitasking, your music will be stopped.
